Report Cards and Parent Conferences
The
first quarter of the year has come to an end. In the past kindergarten parents
have only had conferences with the teacher at this point. However, this year
the state of North Carolina has launched a new data collection program known as
PowerSchools. Along with the new program, kindergartners now receive a report
card every nine weeks.
This
is a good news/bad news proposition. The good news is that it will eventually
give parents more information about how their children are doing in school. The
bad news is that the PowerSchools program has had LOTS of issues, and the final
kindergarten report card is a little more complicated than the Wake County
report card in years past.
I
would like to meet with all of the parents and explain the new report card and
some of the assessment data from the very beginning of the school year
collected during staggered entry. Next week, I will be sending home a
conference sign up sheet in the OTIS folder. Please, choose three times that you
would be available to meet with me. I try to be as accommodating as I can with
working parents, but I also work a second job so my schedule is not always as
flexible as I would like. I look forward to meeting with all of you soon.
